Figuring out what to wear during a session can always be stressful. I know from experience! But, there are a few tips that can help you in your journey to put together a GREAT wardrobe for your session.

1.  Choose a coordinating color, but not the same outfit - Pick a color that can be included in part of each family member’s ensemble. However, you don’t want everyone to look like they match.

2.  Limit distracting patterns and logos – Stay away from small check patterns, too many distracting patterns, and anything with large logos that might take the eye away from what you are wanting to capture.

3.  Consider your home décor – These photos are most likely going to be seen around your home. Consider what colors and outfits will go well with your color scheme and décor. Also, think about timeless outfits for photos that can be art for years to come.

4.  Clothing that fits well – Outfits that are too large can look unkempt and baggy. Wearing clothes that are baggy are unflattering to your figure. Also, making sure the children’s outfits fit well is very important. Trying on all outfits before the day of the session is a great idea.

5.  Comfortable & Confident – During the session, you and your family want to feel comfortable in different poses and could be doing some walking around. When you feel uncomfortable, it can show in photos. I want you to relax and have fun. Being comfortable and confident in what you are wearing will help.

6.  Think about the little details – While your beautiful faces and expressions are what the photos are about, don’t forget all the little details. Remember to include accessories/textures that aren’t too distracting. Scarves, lace, cute tights, suspenders, vest, sweaters, jewelry, belts, etc. And, don’t forget about shoes. Stay away from crocs, shoes with characters on them, and excessively worn shoes. Also think about socks, as they might be seen while sitting.

7. Dress for location/weather – Consider outfits based on where the session will be located. If it’s springtime and there are lots of green, stay away from greens. When deciding what to wear, pick colors that will complement the backdrop and not compete with it. Also, dress appropriately for the weather. If you or your children are too hot or too cold it will show in the photographs. Everyone needs to be comfortable during the session.

8.  Lay all outfits out together – It’s always helpful to lay everything out together to see what works and what doesn’t. Plus, you can make sure you aren’t forgetting any essential piece of clothing.

Remember, feeling great during your session and having a good experience is so important. Plan ahead for success and a beautiful session!
